As of January 1st, 2008 all new ceiling suspension systems are required to be heavy duty assemblies. In addition, two new clips have been introduced as a requirement to increase seismic performance. The seismic joint clips (see reference #1 ) are required on all ceilings over 2,500 s/f . The beam end retaining clips (see reference #2) are required at the two ends of the ceiling grid that are not positively attached to the walls. These two new requirements are in addition to the existing code. The requirements for compression posts, seismic splay wires and perimeter wires have not changed.
